Originally from Japan, the Azalea Satsuki is one of the most highly prized species in the bonsai world for its spectacular spring bloom. It's a compact growing plant with small leaves, making it ideal for bonsai cultivation.

Sunlight: Satsuki Azaleas prefer partial shade. They should receive partial sunlight or morning sun with afternoon shade. Protect from intense midday sun.

Irrigation: Keep the soil moist, but not soggy. Azaleas do not like to dry out completely. Use a well-draining bonsai soil mix.

Humidity: Azaleas appreciate higher levels of humidity. To increase humidity, place the bonsai pot on a tray filled with water and pebbles.

Pruning: Regular pruning is essential to shape and maintain the compact form of the bonsai. Remove new growth to encourage branching.

Fertilizing: Fertilize your azalea during the growing season (spring and early summer) with a water-soluble fertilizer. Reduce or stop fertilizing in late summer and fall.

Transplanting: Transplant your azalea every 2-3 years, typically in early spring before new growth begins. Use a well-draining bonsai soil mix.

Flowering: Azaleas are known for their prolific and colorful flowers. Pruning can help encourage more flowers. They typically bloom from late spring to early summer.
