Originating from Asia, Sekka Hinoki is a highly valued bonsai variety for its compact scale-like foliage, slow growth, and strong structural character. The irregular branch arrangement and foliage texture give the tree an aged and expressive appearance.
Sunlight: Prefers full sun to bright partial shade. Balanced exposure helps maintain foliage density and color.
Watering: Water regularly, keeping the substrate slightly moist. Avoid both prolonged dryness and waterlogging.
Humidity: Prefers environments with moderate humidity and good air circulation.
Pruning: Maintenance pruning should be done carefully, avoiding cuts into old wood. Pinching helps maintain shape and density.
Fertilization: Fertilize from spring to autumn with a balanced fertilizer. Reduce feeding in winter.
Repotting: Every 3–4 years, in spring, using a well-draining substrate.
Flowering and Fruiting: Produces small cones with limited ornamental value. The main interest lies in structure and foliage.
