Originating from Europe, Juniperus communis is highly valued in bonsai for its elegant habit, fine branching and dense needle foliage. Its resilient character and compact texture make it ideal for natural and wild-style bonsai.
Sunlight: Prefers full sun. Good sun exposure promotes dense foliage and rich needle colour.
Watering: Requires regular watering, keeping the substrate slightly moist. Avoid waterlogging.
Humidity: Adapts well to dry environments; misting is optional.
Pruning: Prune in spring and summer to maintain shape and encourage fine branching. Tolerates moderate cuts well.
Fertilization: Apply a balanced fertilizer during active growth. Reduce feeding in autumn.
Repotting: Every 3–4 years, in spring, using a well-draining substrate.
Flowering and Fruiting: Does not produce visible flowers; produces galbuli (berry-like cones) in autumn and winter, adding high ornamental value.
