Originating from Asia, Pseudocydonia sinensis is a deciduous species highly valued in bonsai for its vigorous trunk, decorative bark and distinctly rustic character. Its oval, glossy leaves provide good density during the growing season, while the overall structure remains strong and well balanced.
Sunlight: Prefers full sun; good exposure promotes vigour and overall health.
Watering: Requires regular watering, keeping the substrate slightly moist. Avoid waterlogging.
Humidity: Adapts well to normal environments. Misting is optional.
Pruning: Prune in spring and summer to control growth and promote branching. Tolerates structural pruning well.
Fertilization: Apply a balanced fertilizer during active growth. Reduce feeding in autumn.
Repotting: Every 2–3 years, in spring, using a well-draining substrate.
Flowering and Fruiting: Produces discreet flowers in spring, followed by large, aromatic fruits in autumn with high ornamental value.
