Native to China and Taiwan, the Acer buergerianum, known as Trident Maple, is a species of great vitality and balance. Its trilobed leaves stand out for their delicate texture and seasonal transformation: fresh green in spring, deeper and richer in summer, and golden, orange, and crimson in autumn. The young trunk is smooth and greyish; over time, it develops fine fissures and a slightly scaly texture, giving the bonsai a serene and noble presence.

Sunlight: Prefers full sun or strong light but appreciates some protection during the hottest hours of summer, especially in warmer climates, to avoid leaf burn.

Watering: Keep the substrate evenly moist, avoiding waterlogging or prolonged dryness.

Humidity: Prefers cool, humid environments with good ventilation.

Pruning: Can be pruned at the end of winter to structure and in summer to refine the shape. Responds very well to regular pinching.

Fertilization: Fertilize from spring to summer with a balanced fertilizer; reduce in autumn and stop during winter.

Repotting: Repot every 2–3 years, in spring, before bud break. Use a well-draining substrate, such as akadama mixed with fine pumice.

Flowering and Fruiting: Acer buergerianum produces small, unobtrusive flowers in spring, followed by winged seeds in reddish-brown tones, giving the bonsai movement and seasonal interest throughout the year.
