Native to Asia and Europe, Morus spp., commonly known as mulberries, are medium-sized trees highly valued in bonsai for their hardiness, ease of cultivation, and ornamental appeal, particularly for their foliage and fruits. The leaves vary from oval to lobed, usually green and glossy, turning yellow in autumn. They are vigorous species adaptable to various bonsai styles.

Sunlight: Prefer full sun but tolerate partial shade. Direct sun promotes compact growth and fruiting.

Watering: Require regular watering to keep the soil moist, avoiding waterlogging. Tolerate short periods of drought, but not prolonged.

Humidity: Adapt well to average humidity levels, benefiting from occasional misting in dry climates.

Pruning: Structural pruning should be done in late winter. During the growing season, pinching back new shoots helps control vigour and reduce leaf size.

Fertilization: Feed in spring and summer with a balanced fertiliser. Reduce or stop feeding in late summer.

Repotting: Repot every 2–3 years, preferably in spring, using a well-draining substrate.

Flowering and Fruiting: Produce inconspicuous flowers in spring, followed by small, fleshy, sweet fruits in summer. In bonsai, the main ornamental value lies in the foliage, branching, and fruits.
