Native to Europe and Western Asia, Tilia cordata, commonly known as the Small-leaved Lime or Littleleaf Linden, is an elegant tree highly valued in bonsai for its heart-shaped leaves and its ability to develop fine branching. The leaves are dark green and glossy on top, lighter underneath, and turn yellow in autumn. It has relatively fast growth and adapts well to both formal and informal bonsai styles.

Sunlight: Prefers full sun but tolerates partial shade. In hot climates, protect from strong afternoon sun.

Watering: Requires regular watering to keep the soil slightly moist. Avoid prolonged drought and overwatering.

Humidity: Benefits from moderate humidity and occasional misting in dry environments.

Pruning: Structural pruning should be done in late winter. During the growing season, regular pinching of new shoots helps maintain a compact shape and reduce leaf size.

Fertilization: Fertilise regularly in spring and summer with a balanced fertiliser. Reduce or stop feeding in late summer.

Repotting: Repot every 2–3 years, preferably in spring before new growth, using a well-draining substrate.

Flowering and Fruiting: Produces small, fragrant, yellowish-white flowers in summer, followed by small rounded fruits. Its main ornamental value in bonsai lies in the foliage and harmonious crown shape.
