Sunlight: Prefers full sun but tolerates partial shade. In hot climates, it should be protected from strong afternoon sun.

Watering: Requires regular watering to keep the soil moist but not waterlogged. It does not tolerate prolonged drought.

Humidity: Adapts well to average humidity and benefits from occasional misting in dry environments.

Pruning: Structural pruning should be carried out in late winter or early spring. During the growing season, pinch back new shoots to control vigour and maintain a compact form.

Fertilization: Fertilise regularly in spring and summer with a balanced fertiliser. Reduce or stop feeding in late summer.

Repotting: Repot every 2–3 years, preferably in spring, using a well-draining substrate such as akadama and pumice.

Flowering and Fruiting: Produces inconspicuous catkins in spring and small nut-like fruits enclosed in leafy bracts. Its main ornamental value in bonsai lies in its foliage and elegant trunk.
