Native to Asia and the Mediterranean region, Morus spp. (mulberries) are trees well known for their hardiness, vigorous growth, and edible fruits. In bonsai, they are appreciated for their textured trunks, easily trainable branching, and large leaves that reduce well under proper cultivation. The leaves are oval or lobed, bright green in summer, and may turn yellow in autumn. The fruits, red to black, are attractive but less common in bonsai cultivation.

Sunlight: Prefers full sun but tolerates partial shade. Sun exposure promotes compact growth and fruiting.

Watering: Requires regular watering to keep the soil slightly moist. Avoid prolonged dryness and overwatering.

Humidity: Adapts well to different humidity levels and is undemanding.

Pruning: Structural pruning should be done in late winter. During the growing season, pinching helps control vigour and reduce leaf size.

Fertilization: Fertilise in spring and summer with a balanced fertiliser. Reduce feeding in late summer to prepare the tree for dormancy.

Repotting: Repot every 2–3 years, preferably in early spring, using a well-draining substrate.

Flowering and Fruiting: Produces inconspicuous flowers in spring followed by red to black fruits in summer. While attractive, the main ornamental value in bonsai lies in the trunk and branch structure.
