Originating from Asia, Azalea satsuki ‘Yoko’ is a cultivar highly valued in bonsai for its compact habit, fine branching and delicate, harmonious flowering. Its small, dark green leaves form a dense and balanced base, while the elegant flowers provide strong ornamental appeal in spring.
Sunlight: Prefers bright partial shade. Strong direct sun may damage leaves and flowers.
Watering: Requires regular and abundant watering, keeping the substrate consistently moist. Does not tolerate prolonged dryness.
Humidity: Appreciates humid environments. Misting is recommended, especially during hot or dry periods.
Pruning: Prune after flowering to maintain shape and encourage new growth. Avoid late pruning that may affect the next flowering.
Fertilization: Apply a fertilizer for acid-loving plants after flowering and during active growth. Reduce feeding in autumn.
Repotting: Every 2–3 years, after flowering, using an acidic, well-draining substrate.
Flowering: Produces showy flowers, usually in soft shades of pink or white, in spring, which is its main ornamental feature.
