Native to Japan, the Azalea satsuki ‘Chihiro’ is an evergreen cultivar valued in bonsai for its balanced growth, good ramification, and refined flowering. Its small, glossy leaves create a compact canopy, while the spring blooms—typically in soft pink tones with subtle variations—add a gentle and elegant seasonal expression.

Light: Prefers bright, filtered light or partial shade. Protection from strong direct sunlight, especially at midday, helps prevent damage to foliage and flowers.

Watering: Requires consistent watering, keeping the substrate evenly moist. Prolonged dryness should be avoided, as azaleas are sensitive to drought.

Humidity: Thrives in humid environments. Regular misting is recommended, particularly during warm or dry periods and throughout flowering.

Pruning: Prune immediately after flowering to maintain shape and encourage new growth. Avoid late pruning, as flower buds form on new shoots.

Fertilization: Apply a fertilizer formulated for acid-loving plants after flowering and during the active growing season. Reduce feeding towards the end of summer and stop in autumn.

Repotting: Every 2–3 years, preferably just after flowering, using a well-draining, acidic substrate suitable for azaleas (kanuma-based mixes are ideal).

Flowering: Flowers from late spring to early summer. The main ornamental value lies in the soft, harmonious flowering, compact foliage, and overall balance of the tree.
