Originating from Asia, Gardenia jasminoides is a species highly valued in bonsai for its dark green, glossy and dense foliage, and its white, intensely fragrant flowers, which provide strong ornamental appeal.
Sunlight: Prefers bright, indirect light. Tolerates gentle morning sun; strong sunlight may scorch the leaves.
Watering: Water regularly, keeping the substrate slightly moist. Sensitive to both overwatering and prolonged dryness.
Humidity: Enjoys humid environments. Regular misting is beneficial, especially in dry climates or indoor settings.
Pruning: Prune after flowering to maintain shape and encourage new growth. Pruning should be moderate.
Fertilization: Fertilize during the growing season using a fertilizer suitable for acid-loving plants. Reduce feeding in winter.
Repotting: Every 2–3 years, in spring, using a well-draining and slightly acidic substrate.
Flowering and Fruiting: Produces highly fragrant white flowers in spring and summer; flowering is the main ornamental feature.
