Imported from Japan. Japanese White Pine.

Native to China and Japan, Pinus parviflora is one of the most popular bonsai species in the world due to its elegance and resilience. Its fine, delicate needles vary in shades of green, creating a soft and harmonious appearance. The small cones add a touch of authenticity to the tree, making it even more charming. With slow growth and a naturally branched structure, Pinus parviflora is an excellent choice for those who wish to cultivate a bonsai with a sophisticated look.

Quantity

Sunlight: Pinus parviflora prefers full sun for healthy and vigorous growth. It can tolerate partial shade, but growth may be slower and the tree’s appearance less compact.

Watering: Keep the soil slightly moist by watering regularly, especially during the warmer months. Avoid waterlogging, as Pinus parviflora is sensitive to excess water.

Humidity: Pinus parviflora is not very demanding regarding humidity but benefits from moderate levels. A humidity tray is not necessary unless the environment is extremely dry.

Pruning: Pruning is important to maintain the shape and health of Pinus parviflora. Trim new growth to encourage branching and preserve the desired shape. Avoid excessive pruning, as this may weaken the tree.

Fertilization: Fertilize Pinus parviflora during the growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced fertilizer. Reduce or stop fertilizing in autumn and winter when the tree is dormant.

Repotting: Repot Pinus parviflora every 2–3 years, ideally in spring before new growth begins. Use a well-draining soil mix suitable for pine bonsai.

Flowering and Fruiting: Pinus parviflora produces small cones that contain seeds. The tree is not known for showy flowers, but rather for the beauty of its cones and foliage. Proper pruning can help encourage cone production and maintain tree health.
