Originating from Asia, Pseudocydonia sinensis is highly valued in bonsai for its powerful trunk, exfoliating bark and strong seasonal character. Its large, textured leaves create a bold presence during the growing season, while the aged bark and aromatic fruits add visual depth and maturity.
Sunlight: Prefers full sun to partial shade. Good light exposure supports balanced growth and fruiting.
Watering: Requires regular watering, keeping the substrate slightly moist. Avoid letting it dry out completely, especially in summer.
Humidity: Well adapted to moderate outdoor environments. Misting is optional.
Pruning: Prune in spring and summer to shape the canopy and control vigour. Heavier pruning is best done in late winter.
Fertilization: Apply a balanced fertilizer during active growth. Reduce feeding in late summer to support fruit maturation.
Repotting: Every 2–3 years, in spring, using a well-draining substrate.
Flowering and Fruiting: Produces discreet flowers in spring, followed by large, yellow, highly aromatic fruits in autumn, offering strong ornamental value.
