Originating from Europe, Celtis is a species highly valued in bonsai for its robustness, balanced growth, and excellent response to pruning. Its small, oval leaves provide a natural and harmonious texture, while the trunk develops character and maturity over time.
Sunlight: Prefers full sun to partial shade. Good exposure promotes dense foliage.
Watering: Requires regular watering, keeping the substrate slightly moist. Tolerates short periods of dryness.
Humidity: Adapts well to different humidity levels. Misting is optional.
Pruning: Prune in spring and summer to control growth and encourage fine ramification. Responds well after pruning.
Fertilization: Apply a balanced fertilizer during active growth. Reduce feeding in autumn.
Repotting: Every 2–3 years, in spring, using a well-draining substrate.
Flowering and Fruiting: Produces small, inconspicuous flowers in spring, followed by small spherical fruits. The main ornamental interest lies in its structure and foliage.
