Native to Europe and Western Asia, Prunus cerasifera (cherry plum) is valued in bonsai for its delicate foliage, elegant trunk, and striking spring blossoms. Depending on the variety, its leaves range from bright green to deep purple, giving the tree a vibrant presence. It has moderate growth and responds well to pruning.

Watering: Keep the soil moist but not waterlogged. Sensitive to prolonged dryness in summer.
Humidity: Enjoys moderate humidity; occasional misting helps in hot weather.
Pruning: Prune in spring and summer to manage vigour. Reacts well to pruning but avoid heavy cuts in late autumn.
Fertilization: Use a balanced fertiliser during the growing season. Reduce by late summer.
Repotting: Every 2–3 years in spring, using a well-drained substrate.
Flowering and Fruiting: Produces small white or pink flowers in early spring, followed by round plum-like fruits that add colour and seasonal interest.
