


Originating from Asia, Elaeagnus pungens is a species highly valued in bonsai for its evergreen, leathery foliage with strong texture, as well as its high resilience and adaptability. The contrast between the deep green upper leaf surface and the silvery underside adds visual depth to the composition.
Sunlight: Prefers full sun to partial shade. Good exposure enhances foliage density and overall vigor.
Watering: Moderate watering, allowing the substrate to dry slightly between waterings. Tolerates short periods of drought.
Humidity: Adapts well to normal humidity levels, benefiting from good air circulation.
Pruning: Tolerates frequent and more intensive pruning well. Maintenance pruning is essential to control growth and define silhouette.
Fertilization: Fertilize from spring to autumn. Reduce or stop feeding in winter.
Repotting: Every 2–3 years, in spring, using a well-draining substrate.
Flowering and Fruiting: Produces discreet, fragrant flowers in autumn, followed by small fruits of secondary ornamental interest.
