Native to Japan, the Azalea satsuki ‘Korin’ is a highly prized evergreen bonsai cultivar, renowned for its refined growth habit and abundant, elegant flowering. Its small, glossy leaves form a compact canopy, while the profuse blooms—typically in soft pink tones—create a strong seasonal highlight that defines its ornamental appeal.
Light: Prefers bright, filtered light or partial shade. Protection from strong midday sun helps prevent leaf scorch and prolongs flower longevity.
Watering: Requires consistent watering, keeping the substrate evenly moist. Azaleas are sensitive to drought and should never be allowed to dry out completely.
Humidity: Appreciates higher humidity levels. Regular misting is beneficial, especially during warm weather and flowering periods.
Pruning: Prune immediately after flowering to maintain shape and encourage new growth. Avoid heavy pruning later in the season, as flower buds form on new growth.
Fertilization: Apply an acid-loving plant fertilizer after flowering and throughout the growing season. Reduce feeding towards the end of summer and stop in autumn.
Repotting: Every 2–3 years, preferably just after flowering, using a well-draining, acidic substrate suitable for azaleas (kanuma-based mixes are ideal).
Flowering: Flowers abundantly in late spring to early summer. The main ornamental value lies in the floral display, compact foliage, and harmonious overall form.
