Originating from Europe, Cotoneaster is highly valued in bonsai for its compact habit, fine ramification, and small leaves that create a natural, balanced texture. Its subtle, softly glossy foliage keeps a harmonious appearance throughout the seasons, giving the tree a rustic and versatile character.

Sunlight: Prefers full sun but tolerates partial shade. Strong light improves foliage density and back-budding.

Watering: Requires regular watering, keeping the soil slightly moist. Tolerates short dry periods; avoid waterlogging.

Humidity: Well adapted to normal outdoor conditions. Misting is optional.

Pruning: Prune in spring and summer to maintain shape and encourage fine ramification. Structural pruning is best in late winter.

Fertilization: Apply a balanced fertilizer during active growth. Reduce in autumn.

Repotting: Every 2–3 years, in spring, using a well-draining substrate.

Flowering and Fruiting: Produces small white or pink flowers in spring, followed by red or orange berries in autumn, adding strong seasonal interest.
