Originating from Europe, Cotoneaster is highly valued in bonsai for its compact habit, fine branching and dense foliage. Its small leaves create a delicate, elegant texture, while the tree structure maintains a balanced and natural appearance.
Sunlight: Prefers full sun to partial shade. Good exposure promotes dense foliage and flowering.
Watering: Requires regular watering, keeping the substrate slightly moist. Avoid waterlogging.
Humidity: Adapts well to normal environments. Misting is optional.
Pruning: Prune in spring and summer to control growth and encourage fine ramification.
Fertilization: Apply a balanced fertilizer during active growth. Reduce feeding in autumn.
Repotting: Every 2–3 years, in spring, using a well-draining substrate.
Flowering and Fruiting: Produces small white or pink flowers in spring, followed by decorative berries in shades of red, orange or black in autumn, adding colour and texture.
