


Originating from Asia, Ficus retusa is an evergreen species highly valued in bonsai for its robust trunk, expressive aerial roots and vigorous growth. Its oval, deep-green, leathery leaves give a balanced tropical appearance, making it a versatile and resilient species.
Sunlight: Prefers bright natural light. Tolerates direct sun but benefits from strong, diffused light in very hot climates.
Watering: Requires regular watering, keeping the substrate slightly moist. Avoid prolonged dryness and waterlogging.
Humidity: Prefers moderate to high humidity. Regular misting is beneficial, especially indoors.
Pruning: Prune throughout spring and summer to control growth and encourage fine ramification. Responds very well to regular pruning.
Fertilization: Apply a balanced fertilizer during active growth. Reduce feeding in autumn and winter.
Repotting: Every 2–3 years, in spring or early summer, using a well-draining substrate.
Flowering and Fruiting: Produces small, inconspicuous figs; the main ornamental interest lies in the trunk, aerial roots and foliage.
