Native to China, Ginkgo biloba is one of the most admired species in the bonsai world, known for its unique and elegant fan-shaped foliage. The leaves are bright green in spring and summer, turning a vibrant golden yellow in autumn — a true seasonal display. It is a slow-growing and long-lived tree.
Sunlight: Prefers full sun for healthy growth. Tolerates partial shade, but foliage may be less dense.
Watering: Keep the soil slightly moist but avoid waterlogging. Water regularly, especially during hot periods.
Humidity: Adapts well to normal humidity levels but benefits from moderate moisture.
Pruning: Prune new shoots to encourage branching and maintain shape. Avoid heavy pruning, as growth is slow.
Fertilization: Apply a balanced fertiliser during spring and summer. Reduce feeding towards the end of summer.
Repotting: Every 2–3 years in spring, using a well-drained, organic-rich mix.
Flowering and Fruiting: A dioecious species — female trees produce fruits in autumn, while male trees bear small yellow flowers.
